PRACTICE LAB / PRACTICE SESSION EXPECTATIONS
At FBX Poker School, we are committed to cultivating a supportive, respectful, and integrity-driven community for all our students. Our shared success is built on mutual respect and a dedication to fair play. By enrolling in FBX Poker School, you agree to uphold the following principles and standards of conduct:
1. FBX Poker School has adapted Mohegan Sun Poker Room Poker Rules and we will closely follow those published rules in regard to poker play; most common rules of poker and poker etiquette are found here, including basics like acting in turn, declaring a raise verbally (otherwise a single chip is just a call), and making forward motion with chips in not more than one move of the hands (no going back for more chips to increase bet size) as example.
2. Students must be familiar with the special options available to everyone who participates in Practice Sessions at FBX Poker School.
3. Practice students may not violate state or federal law; illegal gambling is prohibited. Illegal gambling can occur when a casino or "the house" takes a "rake" (which is a percentage of the pot) or otherwise profits from a gambling enterprise. Casino's might take 5% of the amount players wager each hand. FBX Poker School will never just take any portion of any pot of money that students bet to win for themselves. Students may elect to give their owed lesson fee from their winnings, however.
4. Practice instructors will report violations of the law, including: AS 11.66.200. Gambling.
(a) A person commits the offense of gambling if the person engages in unlawful gambling.
(b) It is an affirmative defense to a prosecution under this section that the defendant was a player in a social game.
(c) Gambling is a violation for the first offense. Gambling is a class B misdemeanor for the second and each subsequent offense.
5. Students may, at their own choosing, decide to play a “social game” during the Practice Session; in this case, betting for something of value is allowed and, according to Alaska law, legal.
6. Students, as a group, are always able to play during Practice Sessions without betting for money or anything else of value.
7. Feedback and coaching is provided to students during all Practice Sessions; this is the primary purpose of FBX Poker School and it's Practice Lab.
8. During Practice Sessions, regardless of whether the students bet with something of value or not, FBX Poker School charges lesson fees per practice lesson. This fee is not associated in anyway with gambling. It is not connected to any “social game”; rather, this fee pays for the feedback and coaching services given directly by the Instructor.
9. Students who participate in Practice Sessions must conduct themselves honestly, responsibly, and with integrity; students must always act with maturity and respect the rights of others. Students may not engage in behavior that disrupts the learning environment, violates the rights of others, or otherwise breaks any law or ordinance.
10. Students who participate in Practice Sessions agree not to engage in behavior that is: assaulting, harassing, intimidating, or threatening to another individual or group; this also includes agreeing not to use foul, derogatory, or demeaning language that is intended to hurt or insult another student.
11. Any form of collusion, including but not limited to, sharing hand information, soft-playing opponents, switching cards, or engaging in any coordinated efforts to gain an unfair advantage over other students, is absolutely forbidden.
12. Friends, spouses, or family members who sit directly next to each other may be tempted to act as a "team" or otherwise collude with one another; therefore, to prevent any 'appearance of impropriety' the dealer instructor and/or any student may ask that any other pair of students sitting next to each other be separated from one another if the pair have any kind of outside relationship with each other.
13. Only the English language may be spoken while there are live cards in play.
14. The selling, trading, or unauthorized exchanging of seats or positions to other individuals is strictly prohibited; all seat changes must be managed directly through the FBX Poker School dealer instructor.
15. Students are not allowed to show any other player their cards unless only two players are left in the hand and at least one of the two players is folding. If a player shows their cards to another player at any time, regardless of whether the player folds or folded, any other player at the table can ask to see the shown cards once the hand is over. However, showing cards to another player while either person is still in the hand will result in both hands being declared 'dead' by the dealer instructor. Cards can discretely be shown to a FBX Poker School instructor or teacher for specific individualized training. Otherwise, no one is allowed to show a hand, or communicate anything about their hand, while there is live cards in play. If a hand is wished to be saved, it may be placed past the white betting line with a singular chip on top of it. If this dead hand is touched again before all cards are dead, the hand will be collected and discarded by the dealer.
16. Stealing, misusing, destroying, defacing, or damaging FBX Poker School property or the property of another person is strictly prohibited.
17. Students should not solicit other players, sell goods or services, or ask others for money.
18. Real or replica firearms, including toys and other weapons, knives, explosives (including fireworks), ammunition, or toxic and dangerous materials are prohibited at FBX Poker School.
19. Illegal drugs and substances are not allowed at FBX Poker School, including using, possessing or distributing illegal drugs.
